Apple Carrot Treats

Apples are a great source of fiber, high in Vitamin C, and have a natural sweetness to help balance a dog’s blood sugar. Carrots are low fat and low calorie. They are nutrient-rich for a healthy skin and coat, and also for vision health.

Ingredients

1 apple

1 carrot

1 egg

1 T melted coconut oil

1 T molasses or maple syrup

2 c. almond flour

1 c. oat flour

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Peel the apple, remove and discard the core, and shred the apple.

Peel and shred the carrot.

Add the shredded apple and carrot, egg, melted coconut oil, and molasses (or maple syrup) to a large bowl.

Stir the wet ingredients.

Mix the almond flour and oat flour together in a bowl.

Add the flour mixture to the apple carrot mixture. Combine well.

Roll dough into small balls and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

Press down slightly so the treats are about ¼ inch thick. (Or use cookie cutters to cut the dough. Place dough on a floured surface and use a rolling pin to roll out the dough, or use a pizza cutter to cut square and rectangular treats.)

Bake until golden brown (about 20-25 minutes) and let cool on a wire rack.
